The Adelphi Orchestra is a professional, non-profit orchestra performing symphonic, chamber, operatic and dance concerts. For the past 17 years, the Adelphi Orchestra has sponsored a Young Artist Competition and Young Artist Concerts throughout New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area. The Adelphi Orchestra presents concerts with accomplished national and international guest soloists and distinguished conductors. The Orchestra is under the direction of Maestro Richard Owen. For the past 6 years, The orchestra has been nominated by its peers for the  Jersey Arts People’s Choice Award in the Favorite Orchestra/Symphony Division. The Adelphi Orchestra is a member of the League of Orchestras and Opera America. It is northern New Jersey’s longest continuously performing orchestra and a member of the New Jersey cultural community for 67 years.Visit AdelphiOrchestra.org to learn more.
 
Bios:
 
Laura Hamilton (violin) was Principal Associate Concertmaster for the Metropolitan
Opera Orchestra, where she led hundreds of performances over 33 years. She was concertmaster for many of the Met's popular “Live in HD” videocasts, including Carmen, Parsifal, Turandot, Faust, Salome, and Madame Butterfly. Previously a member of the Chicago Symphony, she appeared there as concerto soloist with Maestro Sir Georg Solti.
In 2020 Laura was appointed Interim Artistic Director for the summer festival Classical Tahoe in Nevada, where she is also Concertmaster. She also leads the orchestra and teaches at Festival Napa Valley. She has performed in the Marlboro, Manchester, and Bard Music Festivals, in summer festivals in Norway and Greece, and on the Met Chamber Ensemble series at Carnegie Hall. She appeared as guest concertmaster for the Seattle Symphony, the American Symphony Orchestra, the Welsh National Opera, and the Adelaide Symphony in Australia. In 2014, while on leave from the MET, Laura served for one season as concertmaster at the Sydney Opera House. A highlight of her Sydney experience was a gala concert with famed tenor Jonas Kaufmann; her rendition of Massenet's Meditation from Thais garnered rave reviews praising her “radiant,” “serenely beautiful interpretation.”
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Laura is a graduate of Manhattan School of Music, where she was the Nathan Milstein Scholarship recipient. Laura Hamilton teaches violin and chamber music at New York University. She has been visiting faculty at New World Symphony, Manhattan School of Music, and at Bel Canto Institute in Florence, Italy. Her instrument was made in Venice in 1732
by the golden-age luthier, Carlo Tononi. Laura and her husband, cellist Lanny Paykin, resides in Oakland, New Jersey.
 
 ​Lanny Paykin (cello) was born in New York where he attended the High School of Music and Art. He received his BA from Wesleyan University and the MM in Cello from the Juilliard School. Mr. Paykin maintains a diverse career in the New York area, appearing regularly with the NY City Ballet and the Metropolitan Opera, in recording studios, and in solo and chamber music concerts. He is a member of Westchester Philharmonic, American Composers' Orchestra, and Brooklyn Philharmonic, often performing as principal for these orchestras, as well as for NY City Opera, NY City Ballet, Long Island Philharmonic, and American Symphony Orchestra. He has toured Asia with New York Philharmonic and performed with them at Avery Fisher Hall. His honors have included the Juilliard Alumni Award and the Paderewski Foundation Award.
 
Sylvia Rubin (violin) is an active chamber and orchestra musician. She currently performs in the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra, Amore Opera, Mid Atlantic Orchestra, Ridgewood Gilbert and Sullivan Players. She is a regular performer in chamber concerts at the New York City Bar Association, area libraries in New Jersey with the Adelphi Chamber Ensemble and recently at Weill Recital Hall. She is a regular participant at the chamber music conference at Bennington College, Raphael Trio Workshop and Starling-Delay symposium at Juilliard. She received her formal musical training at the University of Michigan, Kent State University and in Akron, Ohio. Sylvia holds a BS in Medical Technology from Kent State University and a Masters of Electrical Engineering and an Electrical Engineering degree from Northeastern University in Boston. She spends her time managing the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra and is a mother of three children.
 
Francesca Martin-Silos (viola)
Violist Francesca Martin Silos, former member of the award winning Colorado Quartet from 1982 to 2000, has performed extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. In 1983, within 10 days, the quartet won both the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Award and First Prize at the Banff international String Quartet Competition. Ms. Martin Silos has also appeared at numerous music festivals including the La Jolla Chamber Music Festival, SoundFest Summer Quartet Festival, Round Top Festival Institute, and Orford Music Festival in Canada. She has recorded works by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and several contemporary composers on CD's from Nonesuch, Delos, Fidelio, and Parnassus Records. Originally from Los Angeles, she has been a member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra as well as principal violist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute. She teaches privately and has been the featured writer of a pedagogy article in the Journal of the American Viola Society. Currently she resides in Bergen County where she performs often as a guest artist with a variety of ensembles.
